The Whitsunday Islands are a collection of continental islands of various sizes off the central coast of Queensland. The Whitsunday's are a popular tourist destination for travellers to Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef with the area being one of the most popular yachting destinations in the Southern Hemisphere.

The islands consist of the Whitsunday Group, the Lindeman Group, the Molle Group and the Northern Group. The most commercial of the islands is Hamilton Island. Camping is available at eight camping areas on the three islands. Several islands have large resorts, offering a wide variety of accommodation and activities.

Airlie Beach

Airlie Beach is a town in the Whitsunday region of Queensland. Airlie Beach is one of many departure points for the Great Barrier Reef. It is a tourist destination and is extremely popular with backpackers.

In order to provide somewhere for visitors to swim, the local council has built a swimming lagoon on the foreshore. The Airlie Beach Lagoon is 4,300 m2 and 4.5 million litres of fresh, self chlorinated water.
