General Information about Mackay

Mackay is a city on the eastern coast of Queensland, Australia, about 970 kilometres (603 miles) north of Brisbane, on the Pioneer River. Mackay is nicknamed the sugar capital of Australia because its region produces more than a third of Australia's cane sugar. There are endless options of things to see and do in the Mackay City Centre. Spend time enjoying the many attractions, parks, public spaces and of course the vibrant atmosphere.

Relax with families and friends along the award winning Bluewater Trail; enjoy the glorious weather at the Bluewater Lagoon; or make the most of the alfresco facilities at the Bluewater Quay. If art and culture is more your style, take the time to stroll the wide pathways of the City Centre and discover historic buildings and captivating artworks.

Travelling inland, you can hear the wind move through the sugar cane as you make your way towards the ancient rainforests of the hinterland. Walk through the clouds in misty, mountainous Eungella or be lifted into the canopy for 'forest flying' in Finch Hatton Gorge.
